Seattle vs Kansas City: Series Preview
The 'Red-hot Royals' are coming home to face the 'Mediocre Mariners' for a three game set, and expectations are high for this first place Kansas City team.
James Shields ( 8-3, 3.50) vs. Hisashi Iwakuma ( 5-3, 2.59 ERA)
The Royals will look to start a new winning streak against Hisashi Iwakuma and the Mariners. His numbers may look scary, but the last time we faced a guy with a sub-3 ERA, we roughed him up for 10 ER. Not to mention, that same said guy was Cy Young award winner, Max Scherzer. Iwakuma is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA lifetime against the Royals. Wow... A lot of zeroes in that ERA. Oh well, he's just another guy in a uniform.
James Shields has not been very.... Ace-like in his past few starts. In his last three starts "Big Game James" is 1-0 with a 6.87 ERA. It seems as if Shields is pitching for a contract, and failing miserably at it.
Ryan will be wearing his shirt tomorrow, but I will be in attendance. I'm notoriously bad luck for this team. We shall see. The key matchup here isn't Shields/Iwakuma. The key matchup is Ryan's shirt vs. Sarah's random Kauffman Stadium appearance.
Jason Vargas ( 7-2, 3.25) vs. Chris Young ( 6-3, 3.40 ERA)
I'm making a bold prediction here: Jason Vargas will no-hit the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Jason Vargas has a sub-2 ERA against his former club, while not profound, I would not put it out of the question.
Chris Young has similar stats, with a 1.35 ERA against us lifetime. The last 15 games, the Royals have beaten the odds, so why not this one too?
Yordano Ventura ( 5-5, 3.26 ERA) vs. Roenis Elias ( 6-5, 3.91 ERA)
Yes, ladies and gents, that's right. Fire will be thrown, and hitters hearts will be broken. I am still very worried about Ace's elbow, but I am fairly certain that he will be out there on Sunday throwing some fire. Ventura has decent numbers against the M's. He is 0-1 with an ERA of 3.00.
Roenis Elias (man, that's a name) has a 5.40 ERA against us, so I think we're good for this game.
Poor Mariners. They get "Big Game" James Shields, Jason "Vargy Pitched Good" Vargas, and Yordano "Ace" Ventura? Uh oh. Call the cops! This series should be a straight steal for us. Should we end this series in second place, I leave you with this: It was a great run in first place. Don't give up hope, and most of all, Be Royal KC.
