Los Angeles Dodgers at Kansas City Royals: Series Preview

Published by Sarah Davis

The Los Angeles Dodgers are catching the Kansas City Royals at just the right time. Having just won 10-straight, the Royals have regressed, and are now on a streak of a different kind. Kansas City will look to get back on track with this upcoming series against the Dodgers.

Game 1:

Jeremy Guthrie (4-6. 3.86 ERA) vs. Zach Grienke (9-3, 2.57)

Welcome back, Zach. Long time, no see. While I'm not Nostradamus, I will go ahead and predict that Zach Grienke will throw eight innings, and give up three runs (two earned.) Alex Gordon, Omar Infante, and Danny Valencia all have home runs off of Grienke. Brett Hayes is 2-2 off of Grienke in his career. Maybe Ned Yost should start him so he can double his hit total today.

Jeremy Guthrie, as long as he's been around, has never faced the Los Angeles Dodgers, however Juan Uribe and Adrian Gonzalez have the most at-bats against Guthrie. Uribe is 1-8, and Gonzalez is 4-13.

Guthrie is notorious this year for his lack of run support, so I expect this to be a low scoring game.

Game 2:

Danny Duffy (4-6, 2.80 ERA) vs. Clayton Kershaw (7-2, 2.52 ERA)

Both pitchers have never faced each others opponents. With Clayton Kershaw fresh off of a no-hitter, this would seem to me like the perfect pitching matchup for this series.

Danny Duffy has been absolutely rock-solid in his last, well, almost every single start this year with the exception of two.

Game 3:

James Shields (8-3, 3.70 ERA) vs. Dan Haren (7-4, 3.62 ERA)

Haren and Shields both have similar numbers. Haren has been much more reliable in his last three starts than Shields has. Haren is 2-0 with a 4.15 ERA, while Shields is 1-0 with a 6.38 ERA, which proves my point that wins are not everything for a pitcher.

Shields is another pitcher that has never faced the Dodgers. On the other hand, Dan Haren is 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA,

I have this strange feeling that we are going to lose two out of three because it's the Royals thing to do. A 10-game winning streak, followed by a 6-game losing streak. Oh well, onward and upward, friends. It's a long season.
