Royals at Blue Jays: Preview

Published by Sarah Davis

The Royals are going to get swept by the Toronto Blue Jays. There, I said it. There is no sugarcoating the futility of this team. Plain and simple, they will get swept unless by some fortunate turn of events, the clock strikes May, and they awaken the sleeping offense that we know (or don't know) is inside of them.

Starting off the series will be ace, James Shields. James Shields has a 12-6 record with a 3.09 ERA lifetime against the Blue Jays. Squaring off against James Shields is Blue Jays knuckle baller, R.A. Dickey. Dickey, in his career against the Royals is 3-3 with a 4.33 ERA.

Squaring off next for the Royals and Blue Jays are Jason Vargas and J.A. Happ. Against the Jays, Vargas is 1-3 with a 5.90 ERA. There are similar stats for J.A. Happ. In his career against KC, he is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA.

Next on the hill for Kansas City is ________. This is the "1 start" that Yordano Ventura will miss, according to our pathetic excuse for a General Manager, Dayton Moore. I do not know who the leading candidates for Starters on Saturday will be, but I can tell you that his name is not Kyle Zimmer. Throwing for the Jays will be Drew Hutchison. The Royals have not seen Hutchison but one time. Alcides Escobar is 3-3 off of him, Alex Gordon is 1-2, and Eric Hosmer is 1-3.

Closing out against the series will be Jeremy Guthrie and Mark Buehrle. Guthrie is 3-8 with a 3.46 ERA against Toronto. Mark Buehrle is 24-12 with a 3.64 ERA against the Royals.

Hopefully, in a few days when the Calendar strikes June, the sleeping offensive beast inside of our players souls will arise, and we will no longer be the laughing stalk of the MLB. However, I do not think that is likely to happen. Do I see the Royals as contenders this year? No. It's more like pretenders if you ask me.
