Hitless Hayes Sticks Around
~~Brett "Hitless" Hayes has lived to see another day in a Royals uniform. Earlier on Sunday, the Royals announced, for whatever reason, they would be optioning backup catcher Francisco Pena to AAA Omaha, and recalling Michael Mariot.
For whatever reason, the Royals seem to adore Hayes, and his inability to hit the ball. Hitless Hayes is still.... You know.... Hitless. Hayes is 0-26 this season. One more at bat, and he will have a perfect game thrown against him. Boy, he sure is a nifty guy to have on your team, wouldn't you say, Dayton?
Brett Hayes is just another one of Dayton Moore's projects that he won't cut until it's too late. Other 'project players' include, but are not limited to: Chris Getz, Yuniesky Betancourt (twice) and Jeff Francouer. I'd say we'd be looking at a Hayes demotion in about August or so, but who knows.... Maybe Dayton will get something right for a change.
In other Royals news, Nori Aoki will sit today. Aoki has a sore elbow after being hit by a CJ Wilson fastball on Friday night's series opener. Royals new starting third baseman, Danny Valencia will also sit today after appearing to injure his hand in the 13th inning of last nights victory. X-Rays for Valencia came back negative, and he is listed as day-to-day. The Royals will go for the series win at 2:35 central time, which will air on FSKC. Hopefully Vargy can pitch good, and we can come back home with a record better than .500.
